MONTEGUALTIERI (CERMIGNANO) - TERAMO PROVINCE
The village of Montegualtieri is most famous for its triangular tower which is a rare structure found in Abruzzo. The tower which was built in the 14th - 15th centuries and is on a rocky spur overlooking the countryside, in an ideal defensive position.
The village itself is small, with a population of 96 people. It is 260 metres above sea level and belongs to the municipality of Cermignano which is just nine minutes away by car and offers a variety of amenities including a weekly market. Each January it hosts a folk festival which takes place on the feast of St. Anthony and often under snow. There are stands, at various points, preparing grilled sausages, offered with excellent homemade wine, to the accompaniment of traditional songs and dances. A small journey for those living in Montegualtieri.
The main provincial town of Teramo with all facilities is 20 kms away.
