PALOMBARO - CHIETI PROVINCE
A pretty village within the Maiella National Park and with beautiful views of the Avello Valley. Palombaro is 536 above sea level and has a population of 1,006. It is best known for the haunting cave of Sant’Angelo Grotto, within which is a small 11th-century Benedictine Chapel. The cave can be found by following the signs from the town. It takes about two hours on foot.
For inhabitants, the village has a variety of food shops, a pharmacy, post office, ATM, boutique and bar/pizzeria. There are plenty of surrounding restaurants and the larger towns of Casoli, Pennapiedimonte and Guardiagrele are all a short drive away. They offer a choice of historic treasures together with many shops and eateries.
Palombaro is a perfect base for exploring, appreciating nature and, of course, adventure activities. There are horse riding trails, hiking paths, climbing facilities and Tibetan bridges to navigate.
