This exclusive brick-built, fully renovated villa was an original noble mansion dating back to the 17th century which has undertaken several enlargements within the centuries. It was a typical 550 sq. metres farmhouse of the area, owned by a rich landlord during the 19th century and then left to the farmers’ families.
Nowadays the villa, with an attic, garage and cellars, covers 800 sq. metres divided as follows:
Ground floor - (276 square metres of living accomodation) hosts an entrance hall, huge lounge with adjacent living room, studio with library, kitchen/diner, another dining room with second living room/reception, bathroom. To complete the living space there are further 80 sq. metres on the outside which boasts a wooden porch with sitting area, BBQ and oven which have been painstakingly renovated with bricks and clay.
There is also a very nice sink built with old oak boards and stones dating back to the 16th century found in an antique water tank.
Underground floor - (140 sq. metres) used as a garage (with enough room for 4 cars) and storage room/cellar. There is also a large boiler room (2 powerful boilers provide gas central heating for the house) and a spare-water tank. This level is linked to the upper floor, to the porch and to the drying room.
First floor - covers the same floor area of the ground floor (276 sq. metres), 203 of which is living space while the remaining 73 sq. metres boasts a huge terrace. This level comprises the following rooms: very spacious master bedroom with en suite wardrobe and bathroom (Jacuzzi, shower and double sink), 3 further bedrooms (one of which with balcony and another one leading to the massive terrace), a hobby/entertaining room and another bathroom.
Second floor (183 sqm) hosts the attic which is currently not finished and was meant to be used as guests’ accommodation with kitchen, living room, studio, library, 2 bedrooms and bathroom.
Every bedroom in the house has got TV, telephone and Internet connection. This incredibly fascinating property is set in its own private green and lush park of about 3.500 sqm, enriched with the typical scented and colourful flowers and herbs of the Mediterranean vegetation.
The garden, which has also a well and related irrigation system, is a real oasis of relax and tranquility and offers great relief during the hottest days of the summer season. There was also a volley court in it which has been removed and the owner has got a project to replace it with a swimming pool, while the BBQ area is an ideal spot for outdoor meals with family and friends.
The villa is certainly an exclusive property like a few others in the area as it has been tastefully refurbished preserving the traditional, precious architectural features and re-using the original “leftover” materials like the stone and bricks thanks to a high level of craftsmanship.
The internal part has been restored to the highest standard and guarantees all the comforts of a modern villa like the iroko floors, wooden and cristal glass windows, marble tables in the kitchen etc.
Therefore the dwelling is a perfect combination of luxury, thanks to the modern finishings, and rustic/traditional style, of which the amazing brickwork of the vaulted ceilings in the lounge and living rooms are evidence.
The unique location (on a hillside but surrounded by flat land and open countryside with olive groves and vineyards), within easy reach of the sea (of which you can admire a nice view from the house) makes it an ideal place for everyone wanting to be able to reach the coast in a short driving time.
Francavilla al Mare and its seaside resorts are within a 5 minutes’ drive (2.5 kilometers), the International Airport in Pescara is 7 minutes away while in 10 minutes you can get onto the A14 motorway. Pescara city centre is 7 kilometres away, the other large town nearby, Chieti, is 10 kilometres from the villa. Both cities are very well-connected (bus rides every 20 minutes). The Maiella mountain range and its ski resort, Passo Lanciano, can be reached in about 40 minutes. The nearest restaurant is 400 metres away but there is a fairly good selection within the radius of 1 or 2 kilometres.
These features make the property perfect to be used either as private accommodation or as a B&B/Agriturismo, self-catering holiday lettings and so on.
Francavilla al Mare - Chieti Province
Francavilla has been a popular seaside resort since the 1800s and boasts one of the finest, sandy beaches on the Abruzzo coast. Its population exceeds 24,000 and the town offers plenty of restaurants, bars and shops for both holiday makers and inhabitants to enjoy.
It is situated between the rivers of Alento and Foro and the ancient part of the town developed on a hill, overlooking the Adriatic. Although rich in historical, artistic and architectural heritage, much of the centre was destroyed during WW2 and has since been rebuilt.
The town is home to many festivals and events during the year, the most famous is the Fireworks on the Sea which takes place, each August. The pyrotechnics, which attract large crowds, illuminate the night sky, sea and sand.
There is a wide, purpose-built esplanade which runs next to the beautiful beach. It is perfect for walking, jogging and gentle cycling. There are many Lidos which border the pathway serving cold drinks, ice creams and an impressive choice of fresh seafood. Great for lunch!
Francavilla’s central location makes it a perfect base for exploring the Mountain Parks, Trabocchi Coast and the bustling town of Pescara which is minutes away by bus or train. It is even possible to walk!
