Ripalimosani is a lovely town built in a hilly area in the heart of Molise. It is located 630 metres above sea level and has a population of nearly 3,000. The first written reference to the town came in 1039 but there is evidence of habitation before this time.
There is plenty to see and do in Ripalimosani with its historic buildings and festivals. One of its most anticipated events is the ‘Palio delle Quercigliole’ which takes place on 12th August. This is a horse race which starts just outside the town and is run from the cattle track to the Cappella della Madonna della Neve or the Chapel of Our Lady of the Snow. There is also a very lively, annual carnival.
All amenities can be found either in the town or nearby Campobasso, the region’s capital.
