INTRODACQUA - L’AQUILA PROVINCE
A village that is part of the Valle Peligna and located at the confluence of Sant’Antonio and Contra valleys. It dates to the 10th Century and the older centre, in the higher part, is almost completely abandoned. It is dominated by a square tower that is a rare and excellent example of a walled tower, the origin of the village fortifications. Most of today’s civil architecture is 18th century, enhanced by elegant carved stone windows and portals, and balconies with wrought iron railings.
Introdacqua has a population of 2,103 and is served by restaurants, cafes and a wine bar. It has food shops, pharmacy, post office and cashpoint. The much larger, historic, town of Sulmona is 10 minutes away with all facilities.
The main gastronomic festival, during the first half of August, celebrates ‘porchetta and prosciutto’ – pork and ham!
