CORFINIO - L’AQUILA PROVINCE
Corfinio is situated in the beautiful Peligna Valley at 346 metres above sea level. It is one of Italy’s most ancient towns and has been inhabited since 9th Century B.C. Its history through the ages has been chequered and there is a museum, together, with the remains of the Roman aqueduct and baths to visit. Ruins of architectural structures can still be viewed in the town’s current layout.
In addition, there is the Basilica of St. Pelino which is one of the most important monuments in Abruzzo. It was first built in the 5th Century and, after repeated damage and destruction, it was finally rebuilt in the 11th Century.
Corfinio has a population of 1,052 and has facilities including bars, restaurant, bank, post office, grocery store, butcher and weekly market. The larger towns of Raiano and Pratola Peligna are 6-7 minutes away, by car, offering a greater choice of shops and restaurants.
The village comes alive each August with events held every evening.
